Permaculture & Land

Food Forest

On every Sanctuary property, the land is growing. Herbs, vegetables, fruit trees, and medicinal plants โ€” cultivated with care and open to everyone who walks through the gate.

Our Land Practice

A Living System,
Not a Garden

A food forest is different from a garden. It is designed to work the way a forest works โ€” in layers, in relationship, over time. Canopy trees, fruit bushes, herbs, ground cover, and root vegetables all support each other. The soil deepens. The system gives more than you put in.

We use no-dig methods โ€” lasagne beds, cardboard mulch, compost layering. Low labor, high yield, and a practice of working with the land rather than against it. Every property has its own Map of Forest: a hand-drawn guide to what grows where, what is in season, and how to move through the space with curiosity and respect.

The food forest supplies the Cafe with fresh herbs and seasonal produce, provides medicinal plants for the Wellness Center, and offers guests one of the most direct and grounding experiences the Sanctuary provides.
